large size vintage hardback edition entitled “The Plays of John Galsworthy,” by John Galsworthy (1867-1933).
It was published
by Duckworth, of London, and is the May 1935 fourth impression of the October
1929 FIRST EDITION.
The 27 plays
include:

Silver Box - play hinged on unequal treatment before the law, depending on social
class

Joy - a
study of a young woman's attempts to cope with the inadequacies of her parents

Strife - depicts
the struggle of workers in a Cornish tin mine against exploitation by
the employers

Eldest Son – theme is the repression of women both in the family and society
·
Justice:
A Tragedy - attacks the use of solitary confinement in prisons
·
The
Fugitive - depicts a marriage collapsing from the couple’s incompatibility
·
The
Mob - focuses on jingoism and the politics and morality of war

Skin Game – which depicted the clash between old and new money, attempted blackmail, and
the effect of unrestrained capitalism on the lives of ordinary people

The book measures 8.75
inches x 6 inches x 2 inches and has 1,149 pages.
The book is in
good, neat condition for its age, with minor wear to the original cloth
hardback cover, with a previous owner’s prize plate at the front and a little foxing
near the covers and to the rims, with no other ink or pencil markings in the
book. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. There is no dust-jacket.
A wonderful
vintage edition.
