This is a plastic model of FineMolds "1/48 Aircraft Series Imperial Navy Type 98 Land Reconnaissance Plane Type 12".
The Imperial Navy focused on the Army's high-performance Type 97 Command Reconnaissance Plane and adopted it as the Type 98 Land Reconnaissance Plane, changing the specifications to Navy style. It participated in various reconnaissance missions (bombing guidance, advance reconnaissance, weather reconnaissance) that were equally important as combat missions.
The Type 12 model is equipped with the same Sakae engine as the Zero Type 21, and it played an active role in the Philippine air battles starting immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor, including guiding fighter squadrons in combat missions.
In later battles in New Guinea, it fulfilled tasks such as attacking and shooting down formations of B-17 heavy bombers with number 3 bombs. In the 1/48 scale plastic model, the number 3 bombs carried are being modeled for the first time, and the aircraft is reproduced in detail.
