1750 holland etching Wijk bij Duurstede, new frame.

Collectors item.

The Market, church and Old Town Hall in Wijk bij Duurstede.  The Spilman's engraving from 1750 (!!) is still very recognizable today.

Wijk bij Duurstede is one of de oldes cities in the Netherlands.  Engravings from Spilman are highly sought and are not often found in the trade.  This example is professionally framed.

The engraving is more than 270 years old, but is still very recognizable. The old town hall of Wijk bij Duurstede is an national monument which was built around 1662-1666. The city council had its seat there. The sheriff and aldermen also administered justice there. Therefore there were cells in de basement.  Important items were kept in the building, such as the treasury, city stamps and charters.
With the new construction of the new city office, the Old Town hall lost its original function in 1981. We come across Spilman's etchings in famous museums, such as the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
