PHOTO THE RAILCAR IS A BILLARD 150D AT OF THE STATION AT CAMARET-SUR-MER WESTERN IN BRITTANY FRANCE. IT WAS ON THE METRE GAUGE R�?©SEAU BRETON WHICH WAS AN EXTENSIVE SYSTEM WITH LINES RADIATING ALL OVER WESTERN BRITTANY BUT SADLY IT ALL CAME TO AN END WHEN THE WHOLE NARROW GAUGE SYSTEM WAS CLOSED DOWN IN 1967. I'M THEREFORE VERY GLAD THAT I MANAGED TO VISIT THE AREA WHEN I DID. CAMARET-SUR-MER IS A FISHING PORT AND SEASIDE RESORT AND IT WAS AT THE END OF THE LINE FROM CH�?¢TEAULIN-EMBRANCHEMENT. BY THE TIME OF MY VISIT MOST OF THE PASSENGER TRAINS WERE WORKED BY DIESEL RAILCARS BUT STEAM STILL HELD SWAY ON THE FREIGHT WORKINGS AND A TRAIN OF COVERED VANS IS BEING MADE UP ON THE LEFT. MOST OF THE GOODS TRAINS WERE ACTUALLY MIXED TRAINS AS THEY HAD A PASSENGER CARRIAGE / BRAKE VAN AT THE REAR AND ONE WILL BE ADDED TO THE RAKE OF GOODS VANS BEFORE DEPARTURE. THE RAILCAR IS A BILLARD 150D AND IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES THAT CAME FROM THE TRAMWAYS D'ILLE ET VILLAINE A METRE GAUGE SYSTEM THAT WAS ONCE BASED IN RENNES IN EASTERN BRITTANY. IT CLOSED IN 1950 AND THE RAILCARS WERE TRANSFERRED TO THE R�?©SEAU BRETON IN 1952. FOR A COMPARATIVE VIEW TAKEN FROM A SIMILAR POSITION IN 2002 SEE THE LINK IN THE COMMENTS BOX BELOW.
