Benjamin West Kilburn (1827-1909) served at Fredericksburg in the Civil War and began his long photographic career publishing his first views in 1865.Known for his landscapes, Benjamin
and his brother Edward operated one of the most prolific stereoview publishing houses in the 19th century.In 1910, the studio was taken over by W.F. Burns & Co., St. Louis.
Photographer James M. Davis distributed Kilburn views beginning in the early 1880’s and by 1901 he is said to have taken over most of the “day to day operations.”
