Whilst this looks like a piece of Trench Art, I think it is actually an Antique MAYER & MELTZER Medical Surgeon’s Instrument Steriliser, from the Victorian era I would guess, see last photo-shot. I further guess it would have been filled with some kind of flammable liquid, then the two brushes would be lit for sterilising medical instruments.

It is in good condition for its age, as seen in my photos.
