Dimitar Anastasov Karastoyanov (1856 – 1919) was the son of pioneer Bulgarian photographer Anastas Karastoyanov (1822-1880) who served as the court photographer for the Royal Family in Belgrade for 18 years.  Dimitar opened his own concern in Sofia establishing himself as an important studio for a time making rare early images of the Balkan war of 1912. His brother Ivan also operated a successful studio as well with both making a remarkable record of the peoples and dignitaries of the era and region.  Later, the brothers joined forces to produce postcards.  Dimitar’s son Bozidar went on to work successfully in the photographic trades as well.
