The 3Com 3C16771 Internet Firewall DMZ provides affordable Internet
security for up to 100 users on your local area network (LAN). Plus, it
features a demilitarized zone (DMZ) port that lets customers access your
site without exposing your network to attack. This International
Computer Security Association (ICSA)-certified device denies
unauthorized access and prevents denial-of-service (DoS) hacker
attacks--including Ping of Death, SYN Flood, LAND Attack, IP Spoofing,
Teardrop, and Bonk. If hackers try to use Java, ActiveX, and "cookie"
technologies to attack your network, the 3Com OfficeConnect Internet
Firewall DMZ either blocks applications entirely or enables them only
from trusted sites. It also controls Internet usage from your LAN. You
can prevent access to inappropriate material, keep a log of which sites
are being accessed most frequently, and analyze the bandwidth usage of
your Internet connection
Compatibility Supports all TCP/IP network operating systems
including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT,
UNIX, and Mac OS 7.5.3 and above
Connections Two 10BASE-T, RJ-45 ports; one 10 Mbps Ethernet LAN port (Uplink/Normal selectable), one DMZ port
Management Web-based management using standard browser
Package Contents 3Com® OfficeConnect® Internet Firewall DMZ, user
guide, power adapter, one-piece clipping system, rubber feet, and CD-ROM

Protocol Support TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), NAT (RFC 1631), TCP/IP
System Requirements An Internet access device--a modem or
router--with 10BASE-T or 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet connection; Internet
connection provided by ISP; Category 3 or 5 (data grade) twisted-pair
cable (up to 100 m [328 ft] long) to connect WAN port to Internet access
device, LAN port to an Ethernet 10 Mbps or 10/100 Mbps hub or switch,
and DMZ port to a server or Ethernet 10 Mbps or 10/100 Mbps hub or
switch. At least one computer with Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT
and a CD-ROM drive is recommended, but not required
All users on the network can be connected to the Internet through one IP
address, a feature that saves money by eliminating the need for
multiple IP addresses and, in some cases, the need for a specialized
router
Easy to install and use, the firewall fits between an Ethernet hub or
switch and the modem or router using standard Ethernet connections; it
comes preconfigured and can be customized using a simple Web interface;
little or no technical expertise is required
Network Address Translation (NAT) lets multiple users access the
Internet using an Ethernet modem and a low-cost Internet account
The 3Com® OfficeConnect® Internet Firewall DMZ provides effective and
secure firewall protection using technology similar to that used in
systems employed by large organizations--at a fraction of the cost
The DMZ port is protected from DoS hacker attacks, but can be accessed
by external Internet users, making it an essential tool for e-business
