*History*

Founded in 1911, Sailor is the Japanese oldest pen maker and still making new and innovative pens today.

In the beginning, Sailor makes fountain pens with the classic eye droppers and lever piston filler mechanism fountain pens. famous and widely known as the innovator of the stationery world, in 1954 Sailor invented Japan's first ink cartridges and introduced them in 1958. Because ink cartridges allowed fountain pens to be operational without the long body, In 1963 Sailor invented the first compact portable chest pocket fountain pen that was both small and easy to use.

This combination of a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen is a rarity among vintage sailor pens. Created around the 1960s, Sailor was inspired to create a pen that has multiple functions, whether to use it as a fountain pen or ballpoint pen. With Sailor's history of pioneering the usage of ballpoint pens, this is one of the few projects Sailor tried to introduce to the world.

It is one of the rarest vintage pens in Sailor's collection as few are found to be sold and even its creation still remains a mystery.

*Writing Experience: Sailor Steel Nib *

Vintage Sailor pens have wide variety of options before they became more defined in their product offerings. Back in the 70's Sailor makes fountain pen for practically everyone! and hence a difference in material used is what determined which category of buyers they intended. Steel Nibs made pens are their affordable product offering featuring a similar technology, a flex and EF nib. Because many people in Japan writes kanji, they needed a nib that can bend and create a line variation that is similar to shodo or brush pens when writing Japanese character and hence this pen has a nice spring to it! and gives a well balance ink variation

CUSTOMIZATION: GREEN LACQUER

Customizing memorabilia, and collections is a big hobby culture in Japan. By using Lacquer paint many people in Japan can enjoy their collections either its stationery or collectibles such as Gundam and Tamiya cars. You can really breathe a new life and tell a new story with them. With a similar feature, we have coated the pen with Laquer paint by our own fountain pen engineers with the purpose of creating a new aesthetic and breathing a new life into this pen. Our pen engineers are not Urushi artisans hence this lacquer is different than Urushi Lacquer. Urushi Lacquer will set you back thousands of dollars but of course with a higher quality. This pen however is a fun experiment with Lacquer paint to see how the pen would appear and if anyone sees appreciate it too

DESIGN INSPIRATION: GREEN GOLD DUNE

The magic doesn't stop there – a touch of opulence is added with the infusion of gold glitter paint. This exquisite combination creates a stunning interplay of light and texture, mirroring the glint of sunlight on the sandy ridges. The result is a pen that not only writes with precision but also tells a visual story of the enchanting red dunes.

with its unique fusion of GREEN lacquer and gold glitter, transcends the ordinary, making each stroke a journey through the captivating scenery of a desert landscape. Elevate your writing experience with a pen that goes beyond functionality, embodying the timeless allure of nature's beauty.

All our pens are original and authentic because they're sourced directly from the owners of fountain pen collectors, factory owners in the 40s who's sons/daughters have sold their grandparent's fountain pen old stock and hence cant be sourced online. But for an even more detailed description of our pens condition, we have provided a grade tier list to help you determine if this is the pen for you

S Tier - Almost like Brand New: This pen is in exceptional condition, almost as if it were brand new. There are no signs of rust on the clip, and the original filling system is still intact and does not require replacement. The cap and piston filler, if applicable, screw on and off smoothly without any difficulties. The nib color is vivid with limited to no scratches. Any hairline scratches are barely visible, and there are no cracks on the pen. The pen feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

A Tier - Excellent Condition: This pen is in excellent condition with only minor flaws. There may be small chips on the nib, but no rust is present. Hairline scratches may be visible on the body, cap, and nib. The nib color remains consistent, although small scratches may be seen upon close inspection. The pen can be easily screwed on and off, and the filling system works properly. The original filling system is intact with no cracks on the body of the pen. The pen still feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

B Tier - Good Condition: This pen is in good condition and is perfectly usable. It may have some rust on the clip and trim. The nib color may have changed due to weathering or ink stains. The filling system has been replaced with a new one, possibly because the original one had hardened over time and needed replacement. There are no cracks on the pen, but there may be hairline scratches present.

C Tier - Fair Condition: This pen is in fair condition and is functional, but it has noticeable scratches on the body and cap. The trim may be rusted or chipped. Although there are no cracks, the filling system also requires replacement. The nib color may have changed, or the nib itself may have been re-polished.

F Tier - Poor Condition: This pen is still writable, but it is cosmetically in a terrible state. A major refurbishment has been conducted to restore the pen to an acceptable condition, but in the process, many of its original characteristics have been lost.

Please note that this item condition grade is based on general standards and may vary depending on the specific criteria and expectations of different collectors or sellers.
