Pair of Royal Doulton Ceramic Figurines Bookends Darby & Joan, c1940. Charming Hand Painted Figurines inspired by a poem by Henry Woodfall ' The Joys of Love never forgotten'. Published in the Gentlemen's Magazine in 1735. Marked Royal Doulton, Made in England, Darby HN2024 and Joan HN2023.  Weight 2.5 pounds.  


Approx. Measurements: Joan 4"x4.5"x 5.5"h; Darby 3.25"x 4"x 6"h


Condition: Excellent with no defects or blemishes. No cracks or chips and paint is vivid. Makers mark on both are vivid. No scratches or signs of wear.

Long discontinued, these are the two matching figurines of Darby and Joan by Royal Doulton. The story of Darby and Joan is told in a number of 18th century broadside ballads of a happily married old couple. In England senior citizen clubs go by this name. Both of these figurines are in excellent condition.
