*History of Pre-War Vintage Japanese Fountain Pen: Nishio Private Collection*

Crafted by the esteemed Japanese manufacturer "NISHIO SEISHAKUSHO," renowned for their fountain pen production, this model comes from Osaka, one of Japan's largest cities. "NISHIO SEISHAKUSHO" embarked on its journey in the early 1900s and, although no longer operational, its legacy endures. The company's president and owner, Mr. Zero Nisho, who is now above 84 years old, holds the esteemed position of being considered one of Osaka's intellectual figures in the stationary revolution that followed World War II.

During that era, numerous distinctive pens were manufactured and sold by three prominent giants in the industry: Pilot, Sailor, and Platinum. Japan experienced unprecedented economic growth throughout the country, leading to the establishment of several stationary factories that, sadly, no longer exist today. In this regard, I am delighted to present a pen that originated in 1940s Osaka, Japan—a remarkable piece of history that is no longer readily available.

This pen carries the history, of the Laurel Fountain pen for more than 100 years.

This pen is a piece of fountain pen history that was once forgotten and is now retold to you.

*ABOUT MR NISHIO'S OSAKA STATIONERY COLLECTION*

Mr. Nishio was one of the prominent fountain pen sellers from the 1900s. with a vast collection of ebonite and celluloid fountain pens. Mr. Nishio is also known to not only sells his own fountain pens but make fountain pens for other companies. However, his endeavor came to an end when the war broke out and forced him to close down. His remaining collection of his was kept in the depository for a long time. Recently we were able to get a hold of his private collection which was in great condition! needing almost no repair or restoration work. The supreme quality of his collection forces us to list the item for it to find a new home.

*Semi-Flex Nib: Warranted Hardest Point*

Japanese Vintage Fountain pen uses a lot of Semi-Flex nib configurations. This is because, Semi-flex nibs allow writers to write broader strokes in and between each stoke by pressing on the nib, giving the writer the flexibility to write calligraphy. It is very crucial that a semi-flex nib is included in the fountain open back in the 1930s. It is because Japanese writers use a semi-flex ability to write kanjis and other characters that require broader strokes between the fine strokes.

Warranted Hardest Point specifically was designed for hard-pressed writers. A tough nib that can take abuse! Hardest Point nibs are famous among workers who work in fast-paced like train locomotive occupations hence it was popular during the early days of locomotives in Japan

*CELLULOID FOUNTAIN PENS: HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE *

The history of celluloid usage in fountain pens in Japan traces back to the early 20th century. Celluloid, a synthetic material derived from cellulose nitrate, gained popularity due to its unique properties and versatility.

During that time, fountain pen makers in Japan were in search of an alternative material to replace hard rubber, which was commonly used for pen barrels and caps. Celluloid emerged as a favorable choice due to its advantages over rubber. It offered greater flexibility, enabling pen manufacturers to produce pens with intricate designs and shapes. Additionally, celluloid was lightweight, durable, and resistant to cracking or shattering, making it an ideal material for daily use.

This pen has a very unique design! it's a celluloid fountain pen, however, has a motif like a marble material, with white cracks over a brown transparent design. And what's more unique is

CUSTOMIZATION: GOLD LACQUER

Customizing memorabilia, and collections is a big hobby culture in Japan. By using Lacquer paint many people in Japan can enjoy their collections either its stationery or collectibles such as Gundam and Tamiya cars. You can really breathe a new life and tell a new story with them. With a similar feature, we have coated the pen with Laquer paint by our own fountain pen engineers with the purpose of creating a new aesthetic and breathing a new life into this pen. Our pen engineers are not Urushi artisans hence this lacquer is different than Urushi Lacquer. Urushi Lacquer will set you back thousands of dollars but of course with a higher quality. This pen however is a fun experiment with Lacquer paint to see how the pen would appear and if anyone sees appreciate it too

DESIGN INSPIRATION: GOLD CLOUDS

The magic doesn't stop there – a touch of opulence is added with the infusion of gold lacquer paint. This exquisite combination creates a stunning gold cloud like pattern ontop of the celluloid body

Elevate your writing experience with a pen that goes beyond functionality, embodying the timeless allure of nature's beauty.

SPECIAL ENGEIKA: KEYCHAIN TOP CAP SEAL

Restoring a fountain pen can be quite challenging, primarily due to the scarcity of available parts. This particular pen arrived without a clip, nib, or filling system, a common occurrence since most discontinued factories often opted to sell their remaining stock as raw materials rather than fully assembled pens. When our team acquired this pen, we began the restoration process by utilizing vintage pre-war clips, vintage Japanese rubber sacs for the filler system, and vintage Japanese nibs. To add an extra touch of uniqueness to this pen, we introduced a small twist: a keychain hole in the top cap, allowing you to attach it to your keys and more.

*How to Use*

The eyedropper has a piston mechanism that helps you to intake a huge amount of ink in the barrel and when you almost finish using the ink, the piston will help you to drain out the rest of ink when you clean your pen. This mechanism creates an airtight atmosphere to ensure the leaking out of ink and also constant ink flow to the feeder. To use the pen

  1. unwind the grip to separate the grip from the body
  2. inject ink into the body of the pen using an eyedropper and
  3. attach the grip back to the body
  4. after sealing the grip to the body tightly, wind down the piston that is located at the end of the barrel
  5. station the pen downward to allow the ink to flow into the nib, after a few minutes the pen should release ink from the nib
  6. to clean the nib, you can use the piston to push out the remaining ink from the barrel to the nib

S Tier - Almost like Brand New: This pen is in exceptional condition, almost as if it were brand new. There are no signs of rust on the clip, and the original filling system is still intact and does not require replacement. The cap and piston filler, if applicable, screw on and off smoothly without any difficulties. The nib color is vivid with limited to no scratches. Any hairline scratches are barely visible, and there are no cracks on the pen. The pen feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

A Tier - Excellent Condition: This pen is in excellent condition with only minor flaws. There may be small chips on the nib, but no rust is present. Hairline scratches may be visible on the body, cap, and nib. The nib color remains consistent, although small scratches may be seen upon close inspection. The pen can be easily screwed on and off, and the filling system works properly. The original filling system is intact with no cracks on the body of the pen. The pen still feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

B Tier - Good Condition: This pen is in good condition and is perfectly usable. It may have some rust on the clip and trim. The nib color may have changed due to weathering or ink stains. The filling system has been replaced with a new one, possibly because the original one had hardened over time and needed replacement. There are no cracks on the pen, but there may be hairline scratches present.

C Tier - Fair Condition: This pen is in fair condition and is functional, but it has noticeable scratches on the body and cap. The trim may be rusted or chipped. Although there are no cracks, the filling system also requires replacement. The nib color may have changed, or the nib itself may have been re-polished.

F Tier - Poor Condition: This pen is still writable, but it is cosmetically in a terrible state. A major refurbishment has been conducted to restore the pen to an acceptable condition, but in the process, many of its original characteristics have been lost.

Please note that this item condition grade is based on general standards and may vary depending on the specific criteria and expectations of different collectors or sellers.
