Billy Goodman (1926-1984) was a left-handed hitting infielder, who played 16 seasons in the majors for the Red Sox (1947-1957), Orioles (1957), White Sox (1958-1961), and Houston Colt 45' (1962). An excellent contact hitter, with little power, he played in 1623 games, hitting .300, with 1691 hits, 19 HRs, and 591 RBIs. Goodman was a 2-time All-Star, and in 1950, finished 2nd in MVP voting, while leading the A.L. with a career best batting average of .354, 4 HRs, and 68 RBIs. He was a member of the White Sox 1959 pennant winning team, and in the W.S. hit .231 in the 5 game loss to the Dodgers. After his playing career, He coached for the Braves (1968-1970). Goodman died of cancer at age 58 on 10-1-1984, and in 2004, was posthumously inducted into the Red Sox HOF.
