The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents an Antique Rookwood Pottery VELLUM GLAZE LINE Vase, Signed “H” and Dated 1920. Signed by Margaret Helen McDonald, artist at Rookwood from 1913-1948.  Shape #2040. The vellum vase begins in a dark “arial blue”, moving into a creamy whitish gray, and gradually becoming a pale blue before ending in a turquoise blue. Encircling the vase are 3 sections of draping Calibrachoa blooms in red, yellow and blue with green and taupe leaves. The Finisher’s Mark, beneath the Roman numerals, slightly to the left, is that of Jonathan Browne Hunt. THE VELLUM GLAZE won the Pottery’s Grand Prize in the 1904 Expo in St. Louis. Vellum glaze’s non-refracting surface was the connecting link between mat and high gloss glazes. Vellum was internationally recognized and considered one of Rookwood’s greatest contributions to ceramic history. DIMENSIONS: 8”H x 2.75” x 2.75”.  Base diameter= 2.5”. Top opening diameter= 2.25”.
