ANTIQUE COPPER JUG

A lovely late 19th Century copper lidded jug of most unusual design. Of mildly tapering form with sturdy handle and brass finial handle and hinge to the lid. The lid is marked: PATENT No. 2161, 1893. It has a capacity of 0.5 litre.
The vessel's capacity is not a much as you might expect due to a substantial inverted aperture occupying a large internal proportion of the base. This no doubt formed an important part of the patented design but it's function has yet to be identified!

Date: late 19th Century.

Condition: Good condition. The copper is in unusually good condition with no significant dents, but it has a few small and light pinprick dings which are not readily noticeable. It has been lightly cleaned by hand externally, although some tarnish remains. It is possible that the jug sat over some piece of apparatus, if so this is absent. The jug is watertight.
