Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a gorgeous MONOT STUMPF French Art Glass salt cellar, c. late 1800's-early 1900's.

Measures 1 1/8" high and 2 1/2" in diameter.

This wonderful ruffled rim salt has beautiful golden iridescence with opalescent internal vertical "ribs" extending onto the base. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Made by "Monot & Stumpf" at the Pantin Glasshouse in Patin, France at the same factory where Mont Joye glass was made.  The patented process used to create the golden iridescence on the surface dates to 1878, however, this salt was probably made closer to 1890-1900. The color is a peachy opalescent with a bronzed finish and polished pontil.

This salt is illustrated on page 87, Illustration #256 in the book The Open Salt Compendium" by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson.

This beautiful art glass was designed to directly compete with Tiffany, Steuben and other prominent art glass companies of this period and is regularly mistaken as Tiffany "Pastel" glass. The glass is definitely a high quality art glass.
