Derek Nimmo stars in this classic BBC comedy series from the 1960s about a bishop who tries to lead the "Easy Life" in contrast to the wishes of the reforming Dean.

CLASSIC 60s BRITISH COMEDY SERIES...

Between 1966 and 1971 the ecclesiastical rivalries at St. Oggs Cathedral enchanted a generation of viewers. All eleven surviving episodes of this classic comedy series are available in this special DVD collection.

The series starred veteran farce actor Robertson Hare (Our Girl Friday, He Snoops to Conquer) as the sherry-tippling Archdeacon - Henry, William Mervyn (Tottering Towers, The Railway Children) as the bombastic Bishop wedded to his comforts, Derek Nimmo (Just a Minute, Oh Brother!, Hell's Bells) in the role that made him a star as the Bishop's twittish Chaplain - Noote and John "I didn't get where I am today..." Barron (CJ in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Whoops Apocalypse, Timeslip) as the rule-bound Dean.

The action surrounds the Bishop's attempts to lead an easy life, an idea which is alien to the reforming Dean. Involving the Archdeacon and his Chaplain in his schemes, the Bishop always opposes the Dean and frequently attempts to undermine or avoid him. Running to five series in total, All Gas and Gaiters was a monster hit for the BBC. It was regularly watched by over ten million viewers every week and often featured in the top ten TV programmes listings.

This digitally re-mastered DVD release includes all eleven surviving episodes of the thirty-three episodes made, including: the critically acclaimed Comedy Playhouse pilot - The Bishop Rides Again, first broadcast on 17 May 1966, the first episode of the series proper - The Bishop Gets the Sack, featuring John Le Mesurier, and the first series episode - The Bishop Sees a Ghost, featuring Patrick Newell, which together with the pilot was recovered in 2001.
