If you consider yourself a fighting game fan, the chances are pretty good that you prefer to use an arcade style joystick over a standard game pad when it comes time to play games like Tekken, Dead or Alive or Street Fighter. And if you happen to be one of these kinds of people, then you should definitely take a look at InterAct's ShadowBlade Arcade Stick.
The ShadowBlade Arcade Stick is an arcade style controller that has a handle-styled stick on the left of the unit that's similar to most joysticks used in American arcades, rather than the ball-styled sticks that are more common in Japan. It has a very large metallic base with rubber grips on the bottom for added stability and just feels like it's really been made to last a long time and take any kind of beating that you can throw its way.
The stick, the eight large circle-shaped action buttons and the hard plastic facing all feel really solid and extremely well built. The buttons do feel differently than your standard joystick buttons, but that's only because all of the action buttons are pressure sensitive for PlayStation 2 games that support that function. But the extra give in the buttons don't equate to a feeling of less control, as they feel very strong and responsive.
In addition to being a perfect controller for playing fighting games like Tekken Tag Tournament or DOA2: Hardcore on the PlayStation 2 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Tobal 2 on the PlayStation, this unit also delivers in spades when it comes to extra features and abilities. It not only has standard auto-fire functions for each of the buttons and the ability to relocate each of the different buttons to re-configure control schemes for games don't allow that in game, it offers players the chance to program complex button combinations to a single action button and can be set to several different pressure sensitivity levels.
The programmable button feature is pretty easy to use, with the help of the manual, and is pretty robust in that it can handle advanced moves that require the player to hold a button or joystick position for a longer than normal time period or multiple presses of the same button in conjunction. Pretty much every single move that can be done in games like Tekken Tag Tournament or Street Fighter can be programmed into one single action button on this arcade controller.
This is an excellent controller for fighting games and as far as arcade sticks are concerned, this is one of the best! Works in BOTH PlayStation PS1 and PS2 consoles. It's well worth the money if you're in need of an extremely well built and fully functional arcade stick.
