About this quarter
The original Arkansas quarter 25-cent coin was issued in 2003 after 9000 design entries were submitted.
Arkansas was the 25th state to be admitted to the Union, on June 15, 1836, acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. Later it became known as the Arkansas Territory.
The coin's reverse design features an an image of rice stalks, a diamond and a mallard gracefully flying above a lake. The state's official nickname is the "Natural State." Being an abundant state with over 600,000 acres of lakes, the state offers mallard hunting as a main sporting attraction. Crater of the Diamonds National Park is noted for being the oldest diamond mine in North America, and the only one open to the public.
Rice stalks are featured as rice became a leading product of the grain in the United States.

How was this cut coin made?
This quarter has been hand-cut-out with a tiny saw blade -- not cut by a machine or laser. First several holes were drilled thorough the coin surface, then a coin cutter with decades of coin cutting experience used a jewelers blade to "cut away" the background, leaving the remaining design as you see. The cut coin design remaining is that part of the coin "un cut."
The original coin came from the same coins you see every day, but the those areas your see in the photo that are darker have been removed -- cut away -- creating a pendant for use a jewelry. Then it has been used as a pendant.
