This is the life of Oliver Roberts De La Fontaine of his days in the early West, ranching, mining, saloon keeper, gambler, and as lawman his contacts with stage robbers and other lawless persons.  He tells of witnessing a holdup by Vasquez and his gang.  Much on the life of a shotgun messenger with all the trials that go with it.  His early life was a sad state of affairs.  Noted in Adams "Six Guns" as SCARCE.
