Silver MERCURY DIME

Cut Out Coin Charm Pendant Necklace

Pictured is an 75-to-80-year-old coin, hand 'cut-out', and placed on an 18" fine silver necklace. This coin was minted until the med 1940's, just prior to the Roosevelt dime design like the current day coins. This "LIBERTY" or Mercury dime is favorite woman's cut coin necklace because of its size and beauty.

What you see in the photo is an actual coin "cut out." The black portion is the background, and as you can see, the cut-out area is the same as the surrounding black background. When necklace is worn, you can see right through the coin to the clothing you are wearing.

The "Mercury" lady on the obverse is cut around by hand with a tiny jeweler's saw, by a steady hand of a craftsman of many years. A beautiful and historic coin gift.  Date and coin condition will vary, but most are in the 1940's.

How was this piece of cut-coin jewelry made?  First, a couple tiny holes have been drilled through the coin's obverse, and, using a fine-tooth hand saw the area around the lady, and within the rim, has been cut away leading to this very attractive coin pendant.
