A unique 8 1/2" wide antique china advertising plate from WHEATLAND IOWA. This is a very early C. P. Co. China antique plate, dating back a good 100 years old, maybe older.
- Plate reads: "Ship Ahoy / Sail on good ship / So Stout and true / Bearing every good wish / From us to you. / COMPLIMENTS OF / ROBERT LOHMANN, / WHEATLAND, IOWA."
- Backside of plate is marked, "C. P. Co. / 11 28", with picture of crown. "C.P.Co." = Crown Porcelain Company.
- Condition: Plate is in overall nice condition. It has surface and edge wear, a couple of faint hairline cracks (about 1" long) that realistically cannot be felt and only one (1) that goes all the way through. Otherwise plate has typical glaze crazing/crackling (age checks in glaze, surface only = no harm). In essence, this plate is in nice old rustic condition and really has the look of a
century old plate.
- Age: A TRUE ANTIQUE plate, ca. early 1900's.

Not your average looking antique advertising plate. In doing some research we find that Rob't Lohrmann opened a very large Mercantile (department) store in early day Wheatland, Iowa, and these plates were likely made to celebrate the opening of the store, or commemorate the existence of the business, or given out to loyal customer's. Note that the backside has the "Crown Porcelain Co." maker's mark, that is one of the marks that antique dealer's look for on these old pieces of souvenir china as that is the mark that authenticates this piece as being truly antique. Old advertising china pieces like this are always popular as 1) they always have advertising on them, 2) have colorful scenes, pictures, designs, logos on them, 3) are easy to authenticate when they have the mark stamped on back. All of this together make for a great old relic from Wheatland, Iowa, of a century ago, check it out!
