This is a vintage Phrenological Head Chart originally published in 1857 by M. Nutting. Phrenology is a theory which claims to be able to determine character, personality traits and criminality on the basis of the shape of the head. This poster shows Nutting's chart of the Head with the associated trait locations. A curious poem is also included below the head:

Our minds they will soar upon high,
And follow the stars in their way;
Then come to the lecture and try
To hear what he has for to say.

Our heads we do wish for to know,
As well as the stars in the sky;
He'll all our developments show,
And none importance pass by.

Then let him examine our heads,
Important ourselves we should know;
A treasure far richer than beds
Of diamonds and gold he'll bestow.

Oh then we'll phrenology heed:
How noble it is for the mind
To explore the intellectual head,
Such heavenly knowledge to find.
