In the 1970s many comic book conventions also had imaginative film programs which featured comic strip inspired serials such as CAPTAIN AMERICA, CAPTAIN MARVEL, SPY SMASHER, FLASH GORDON, BATMAN, SUPERMAN, BLACKHAWK and others like Zorro and THE SPIDER. In those bygone days before home video, that was the only way to see these films as they rarely surfaced on television. Some fans were so inspired by these old films (some of whom grew up with them in the 1930s and 1940s) that they published small press magazines in tribute to them. One of those fans was Jeff Walton, who published SERIAL WORLD.
