Life of Don Diego De Torres Villarroel, FOLIO SOC. 1958

The Remarkable Life of Don Diego: Being the Autobiography of Diego De Torres Villarroel.

Translated from the Spanish by William C. Atkinson with Engravings by Harold Bennett.

Diego de Torres Villarroel (1693 - 19 June 1770) was a Spanish writer, poet, dramatist, doctor, mathematician, priest and professor of the University of Salamanca.

Folio Society, London, 1958 first edition thus with no other printing dates stated.

Hardback, no dustwrapper as issued. Lacking slipcase.

Measures 8¾" x 5½" approx.

Black cloth over grey marbled paper, gilt titles and decoration to spine.

8vo, 223 pp, illustrated.

A generally clean and tidy issue.

Boards are mostly clean and undamaged. Book sits flat and tight and is not cocked. Appears carefully read. Some whitening around the spine area, possibly water exposure, although no damage, uneveness or bubbling to surfaces otherwise. Rear is mostly unaffected and spine gilt still nice and bold. Book would still grace any shelf.

Internally very clean and bright still, with just hints of browning. This mostly confined to prelims, and for the most part appears to be adhesive seepage marks from pastedowns. Page edges still acceptably bright, although a little age darkening. A very few of the lightest and tiniest tan stain spots to bottom edge. Top edge dyed red. Otherwise no tears, creases, marks or inscriptions.

All in all a very presentable copy.
