G.P. Putnam's Sons, USA, 1902, twenty-seventh thousand. First published by Putnam's in 1897.

Hardback without dustwrapper.

Measures 8" x 5½" approx.

Publisher's dark blue cloth boards with gilt titles and decoration to spine and front panel.

xiv Introduction, Preface, Contents, 137 pp, 2 pp ads to rear. Attractive sepia frontis engraving, illustrated title panels throughout.

An acceptably clean and bright issue.

Boards slightly stained and chipped. Edges have whitening rubbing but are not frayed. A marked crease to top corner of rear panel, which is very slightly flexible but not in danger of separating.

Binding is still firm and supple and without cracking or gutter splits.

Internally a largish penned name, address and date (May 2nd 1913) to fep. A very few small foxing dates to prelims, pretty unobtrusive. Frontis page has a tan liquid splash stain to bottom inner corner, running around two inches up gutter and one and a half along bottom edge. Else internally very clean and bright for age and free of tears or marks. One or two knocks and dog ears to final few page tips, commensurate with the noted crease to rear panel. Page edges are very bright for age and without browning or foxing. Top edge gilt, although time has diminished lustre somewhat.
