Description
ARTIST UNKNOWN (CONTINENTAL, 17TH CENTURY) A SAINT IN AN ARCADE. Oil on canvas, with arched top Sight: 54" x 39.5" Gilt wood frame: 59" x 45". The piece was painted, c. 1650 1700, and has been professionally restored. Some of the photography shows a glare to the upper right corner. It was photographed in natural sunlight, and is immediately ready for hanging.
Condition
This piece has a heavy layer of varnish and a heavy amount of craquelure to the surface throughout. In various areas, this craquelure results in spots of pigment loss measuring from pen-tip sized to 1/2” spots. Some of the larger spots with pigment loss have been overpainted. To the middle of the canvas, there are two faint horizontal stretcher bar marks. Above the saint’s left hand, there are four spots of light colored pigment. The saint’s left hand has sustained a spot of overpainting measuring 1” x 2”. Along the entire bottom of the canvas, there is a 1.5” line of restoration overpainting as well as several other areas of the perimeter. From the back, it appears as if part of the canvas has been relined or pieced together in a 3 ft x 2 ft area.

If this is an issue, please notify me, as most items are shipped much sooner (especially if I can pack the item myself). However, please be aware that when making a purchase, there is a possibility that I will need to outsource the packaging. I do guarantee that it will be shipped (from our end) within 10 days.
