You are bidding on the 87th cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945.

This 87th cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Fire Bombing of Dresden, the 7th largest city in Germany on February 13, 1945. On that day, 773 twin engine bombers bombed Dresden. During the next two days the US Army Air Force sent over 527 heavy bombers to follow up the Royal Air Force attack. Dresden was nearly totally destroyed. The cover is dual cancelled and the red cancellation is from Majuro proper on February 13, 1995, 50 years after the bombing. The cover bears one 55 cent Bombing of Dresden 1945 stamp. The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The creator of the cover is also a member of the American Philatelic Society. This is a beautiful and unique cover to own and one of a limited edition.
