You are bidding on the 80th cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945.

This 80th cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Paris on August 25, 1944. Eisenhower had decided to bypass Paris but de Gaulle convinced him that they would be met with little resistance if they took Paris. So they advanced and wiped out the remaining collaborationist by August 25th. Paris was free. The cover is double cancelled and the red cancellation is from Majuro proper on August 25, 1994, 50 years after the allied troops entered Paris. The cover bears one 50 cent Liberation of Paris 1944 stamp. The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The creator of the cover is also a member of the American Philatelic Society. This is a beautiful and unique cover to own and one of a limited edition.
