This is a beautiful WASHINGTON DC METROPOLITAN Police challenge coin. Coin is about 1 9/16" in diameter and raised lettering on both sides with a reeded edge. Reverse side is St. Michael the Protector, Patron Saint of Police and the words "In God We Trust". Coin is contained in an acrylic air tight holder and displayed in an attractive black velvet presentation box which will make this a very impressive gift or presentation.

The MPD was formed on August 6, 1861 by an act of the United States Congress. Today the MPD is one of the ten largest local police departments in the United States and is at the forefront of providing police services to the District through community policing and modern technology.

Since the establishment of the Metropolitan Police Department, 121 officers have died in the line of duty.
