From the foreword by Cheng Kar-Chun: "The immense country of China includes the spectacular mountain scenery in the west and the north-west, the magnificent seascapes on the eastern coast, and the boundless fertile fields along the Yellow River. For serenity, however, the peaceful Kiangnan - the South of the Yangtse River - knows no equal.
Kiangsu and Chekiang Provinces, both on the South of the Yangtse River, are rich in native products and abundant in scenic resorts, historical sites and ancient relics. Communication facilities have recently been provided, and tourists find it a more pleasant journey than ever before. Tall chimneys and power stations are seen here and there. The signs of industrialization of the countryside attract every sight-seer.
In past dynasties in the China of old, numerous poems were written about and numerous paintings were painted depicting the beauty of Kiangnan. Although the paintings may be masterpieces of art, the ancient painters lag far behind when it comes to exhibiting the techniques necessary to depict the Kiangnan of today. A veteran painter has instructed me that the techniques of the Tang and Sung painters were not adequate to meet the challenge that modern artists enjoy, and that a modern painter should develop his own style to meet the needs of this new age. Following his advice I am stepping up on my way to apply the best of the traditional technique and that of the modern trend in my paintings, and the result of my endeavors may be seen in this book.

The cover shows a moderate amount of shelfwear from handling including some tearing and missing pieces to the spine and there are a few small age spots on the covers. The prints are in VERY good condition. Again, there are four prints missing including Wangshi Garden - Soochow, Fishing at the West Lake - Hangchow, On the Way to Chienteh - Fuyang and Mountain Scenery - Fuchunkiang.
