A completely beautiful antique OIL ( kerosene ) LAMP.   It is about 4 1/2 inches tall w/out chimney, and just about 12 inches tall to the top of the glass chimney, in place.  It is a beautiful DEEP PURPLE AMETHYST color and it is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold lamp (BIM), dating it well over 100 years old.

This is one of the more decorative Oil Lamp that we've seen in a long time.  It is both unique and beautiful in this sense, and the heavy design makes for a very sturdy lamp.  The pride of craftsmanship really comes through in this one.  Though it is handled so it gives the idea of a smaller, daintier vessel, it takes both hands to steadily handle it.  So yes, it is a VERY PRACTICAL lamp, quite sturdy and durable yet also a completely beautiful Victorian antique.   It also, at times of power outages or romantic evenings with a glass of wine, it can be used to give out that wonderful soft 'antiquee' looking  glow. (Again, I suggest that if the lamp is going to be used, the burner should be replaced for safety. Yet most of these lamps are just used as decoration and for that, this lamp is ... ready to go).   How about the beautiful deep purple color? You hear about old glass turning purple in the sunlight ... ... this beautiful purple amethyst color is the result of  this bottle being made with manganese-glass.  Manganese is a mineral, a rock, that was mined, crushed, and pulverized into a powder, then added to vats of liquid molten glass, and acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the natural aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass.   But when exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, it triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color.  This lamp was passed through an industrial food sterilizer, a safe and permanent process which does the same  as long time exposure to natural sunlight, except much faster.  With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst.   Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make it a great looking antique bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!    Enjoy it as an eye catching object from the Victorian era or get another burner, purchase some lamp oil, and let it 'glow', check it out!
