This is a Very Rare Original World War Two Boeing B-17 Bomber Named "Gremlin Gus" Officers leather A-2 Flight Jacket. The jacket still has the original hand painted Disney Nose Art on the left breast. It also has the persons name over the emblem. The name is hard to read but it starts out with LT. ??????. On the shoulders are LT insignia in leather. This jacket is all original. Original lining, cuffs, waistband, and zipper. The Boeing B-17 with the name Gremlin Gus was used on 2 different B-17 bombers. The first aircraft was 42-30245 and this aircraft crashed on a mission with most of the crew surviving. The second B-17 was aircraft 42-30595. This aircraft was called Gremlin Gus II. Gremlin Gus II was chosen to become a remote control bomb in a program called Operation Aphrodite. To load torpedoes into the bomber, the roof was cut off and the cockpit left open like a convertible. This gave the bomber the nick name "roadster". The program did not do well and Gremlin Gus II was never used as a remote control bomb. You can see many photos of this aircraft on the internet. Without the roof it became the fastest B-17 in the AAF. This jacket is a piece of that history. The jacket has been repaired on the lower back and left sleeve. The left sleeve has two small tears and the zipper will not work without some repair.   This item is being sold as a collectable.
