Description & Design

This wonderful Silver coin is part of the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” series, dedicated to some of the most loved comics characters. In this edition – Wonder Woman. The coin has a stunning shattered glass effect, has a beautiful coloration, has a Proof quality and comes in a themed case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 15.000 pieces worldwide.

The reverse of the coin features the application of colour over engraving in its depiction of WONDER WOMANTM in a fierce battle-ready pose. In the background, carefully positioned polygon shapes are contrasted through the use of frosted finishes in order to create a stunning “shattered glass” effect; this visual element is highly symbolic, for it represents the “shattering” of what was established in Man of Steel and the challenges that lie ahead after Superman has revealed himself to the world. Wonder Woman is a force to be reckoned with in the red, gold and blue colours of her Phoenician armour, complete with tiara and bracelets; the Lasso of Truth is strapped in its usual position on her waist as she holds a sword in one hand, and clenches the other to make a fist. Her facial features convey her famous strength, fearlessness and resolve, while the impression of wind-blown locks infuses the design with a sense of movement. To the right of this warrior is the engraved identifier “WONDER WOMAN” in the Kryptonian syllabic writing system. On the bottom of the reverse, the inscription: “2016” – the year of issue. On the left side, the inscription: “10 DOLLARS” – the face value. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “CANADA” – the issue country and “D · G · Regina” – Dei Gratia Regina.

Background & History

DC Comics
DC Comics, Inc. is an American comic book publisher. It is the publishing unit of DC Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., a division of Time Warner. DC Comics is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies, and produces material featuring numerous well-known heroic characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Shazam, Hawkman, Hawkgirl and Green Arrow. Most of their material takes place in the fictional DC Universe, which also features teams such as the Justice League, the Justice Society of America, the Suicide Squad, and the Teen Titans, and well-known villains such as Joker, Lex Luthor, Darkseid, Catwoman, Ra's al Ghul, Deathstroke, Professor Zoom, Sinestro, Black Adam and Brainiac. The company has also published non-DC Universe-related material, including Watchmen, V for Vendetta and many titles under their alternative imprint Vertigo. The initials “DC” came from the company's popular series Detective Comics, which featured Batman's debut and subsequently became part of the company's name. Originally in Manhattan at 432 Fourth Avenue, the DC Comics offices have been located at 480 and later 575 Lexington Avenue; 909 Third Avenue; 75 Rockefeller Plaza; 666 Fifth Avenue; and 1325 Avenue of the Americas. DC had its headquarters at 1700 Broadway, Midtown Manhattan, New York City, but it was announced in October 2013 that DC Entertainment would relocate its headquarters from New York to Burbank, California in 2015. Random House distributes DC Comics' books to the bookstore market, while Diamond Comic Distributors supplies the comics shop specialty market. DC Comics and its major, longtime competitor Marvel Comics (acquired in 2009 by The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner's main rival) together shared 70% of the American comic book market in 2016.
