Russ Abbott is a Michigan artist and sculptor who specializes in unusual canvasses. From wood, feathers, bone, antler, fur, glass, and leather, to cribs, guitars, motorcyles, and ceilings, he is always happy to try something new. His sculptures range from life-size whales to T-rex dinosaurs, wolves, and sheep.

He uses pre-sterilized, certified pure & clean feathers, which he treats before and after painting to ensure they keep their shape, and to keep the paint color from fading into the feather. He starts by matching the right feather to the right image, and then puts in the general outline using stencils and acrylic airbrush. He then adds in the detail of texture, fur, eyes, feathers, petals, facial details, reflections, and so on by hand. This means that while he might have a dozen wolf eyes, hummingbirds, or flying eagles, none are ever identical.

I need my feather sooner, can you get it to me in time? 

Most often, yes. Please message me before you purchase the feather (with the date you need it by and your shipping zip code or country) and we'll let you know if we can make your needed date. 
 

Do you customize orders? 

Yes, we do customize orders, and in fact, love doing so. Just send us a message with the details of what you are looking for.

Common customizations include color, extra or altered details, and personalized messages. 
 

What if I want a wood and glass frame too?

I DO NOT supply the frames, as the cost for shipping and packaging is far higher than the value of the frame itself, so you'd pay more than double the cost of getting a frame locally.

Our 3 feather pieces are 11"x14", which is a very typical size photo frame (Walmart, Meijers, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and many others carry this size).  The feather doesn't need anything thicker than a typical frame - the wire holding the feather on will make the back of the frame bulge slightly, but it will lie flat against the wall. 

Our single feathers fit a 14"x5.5" frame, which is a little harder to find ready made, but is available at Walmart and some other stores. It is typically a photo collage frame. If you want to frame your single feather and don't want to deal with finding/having made an unusual frame size, please let us know what mat size you'd prefer. We can even mount single feathers in 11"x14" mat, if preferred. 
 

Do you offer bulk discounts?
