Very well made folk art oval pantry or bride's box.  The box has been handpainted with a delightful scene of George Washington & the cherry tree (or Isaac Newton & the apple tree, depending on your perspective).  The box measures 10" X 8 13/16" across the top and is 2 1/4" tall.  The lid is painted on the top with the colonial scene and along the edge with a simple design as shown.  The interior of the lid and the bottom of the box are stained in a complimentary dark brown color.

The piece is signed "Marilyn Fitzgerald" underneath the large fruit that George is sitting on.

The bentwood is tight with no loosening of the components.  The painting is in excellent condition witha couple of small scuffs but nothing detractive.  There is a shiny spot by the apple cart which you can see when tilting the lid to the side, but it does not detract from the box.  To me, it looks like something might have sat on it when it was drying.

It's a great piece for your collection of Americana.
