This is all about How I began the studio
I
enjoy drawing and I have always made it my interests since the earliest
memory. At 3 years old, I saw a train for a first time and I made a
train drawing on the wall right away. The "train" was engraved on the
wall till we moved to a city. The story of this "train" is always the
cozy topic in the family. And later on, became the cozy topic between my
daughter and me. I can not remember how I began to draw with the
pencil, how I completed the huge project at such a kid age(my daddy
still remember clearly it was about 6 meters long).
The train
drawing was just the beginning. Soon our home was decorated with my
"art" on the wall. Tractor, bicycle, boat, pig, duck, cat, anything you
name it, could be found at our home. I am grateful my parents didn't
blame me of damaging the wall with my naive art. My daddy worked in a
rice-processing mill which became my own studio in the end. I drew a
crane when I saw it on the way, and drew a big bird when an adult told
me a story of a monster bird. You could imagine how happy it is for me
to draw and paint anything on the wall in the dust-permeated room. It
let my idea flew with the picture.
Then I went to primary school
and we were taught how to write Chinese words. I was so impressed by
the Chinese written words. To me, the words itself was the most
beautiful art of the human civilization. I was supposed to memorize the
meaning of each Chinese word, Instead, I was trying to write each word
to look nicer. Later on, I began to learn Chinese Calligraphy and
Chinese painting in brush pen.It helped a lot to my oil painting career
because many of my oil paintings has Asian element. In the primary
school,I was dreaming of becoming an painting artist, while most of my
classmates wanted to be the scientist, inventor or policeman.
As a
fine art major in college, I received comprehensive oil painting
training with supportive effort from college art campaign. I primarily
studied the impressionistic art and of course Claude Monet's art is my
favorite in the copy learning and my style was hugely influenced by
Monet's copies I practiced everyday in college. Later on, I was so
enjoyed by the thick brush stroke texture that I began to learn to
create and paint other subjects in impressionistic style. As the junior
in college,I could paint and sell paintings to support my schooling and
didn’t need to cut budget on material spending(paints, canvas, brush). I
appreciated a businessman bought a lot of my paintings and resold in
French. Therefore,Most of my early oil paintings should be found in
French (if the painting owners didn't throw it away).
In 2000,I
joined a gallery in Hong Kong and painted in that studio for 6 years. I
mainly created trendy art and presented it to Fair worldwide. Meanwhile I
also visited lots of art exhibitions. The exchange with other artists
and the learning from other new art infused me new blood in my art.
I
quit my decent job in the Hong Kong gallery as my art can not fully
created and presented in my way. Art aesthete is rather personal. I
could not paint only for the exhibition guests. With no agent and
promoter, I had to meditate my future of selling my art to direct
customers. To be honest, I was struggling to reach my art out to foreign
customers(my art is more popular in Northern America, UK, France and
Australia). The utilities in Hong Kong is quite a burden,it only made my
ends meet.
On one occasion in 2006, I noticed an e-commence
called ebay and the idea of selling art through internet is brilliant
and indeed it is a place where we get most of our customers(of course I
can not paint that many paintings, in 2009 I found this studio with
other 5 artists and we all paint and sell on this ebaystore)
