RADIOGRAM to KINGSFORD-SMITH - ON REACHING HONOLULU - 30 October 1934 (3:50pm)

In this radiogram, the Junior President of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce sends a congratulatory message to Kingsford-Smith on reaching Honolulu, urging him to "rearrange plans and land San Francisco...".

Apparently, it was felt that landing at San Francisco would be beneficial for the future of Trans-Pacific Air Service.  Kingsford-Smith's crossing the Pacific was a monumental achievement and there were many commercial interests who wanted to be associated with this success, for a variety of reasons.

However, Kingsford-Smith eventually landed in Oakland (California) due to commercial and other reasons.

Charles Kingsford-Smith and Captain PG Taylor made history when they successfully completed the first flight from Australia across the Pacific Ocean to the USA.

They left Archerfied (QLD) in the Lady Southern Cross on 21st October 1934 and arrived at Oakland (California) on 3rd November 1934.

This radiogram is from the estate of the late John Williams of the "Honolulu Star Bulletin".  John Williams was a key figure in promoting this historic flight.

This is a unique and very personal piece of aviation history.  Reasonable condition.
