17th CENTURY FLEMISH OIL ON PANEL
“ HEAD OF CHRIST "
A beautiful 17th century flemish oil on panel depicting the head of Christ wearing the crown of thorns with a halo of light and the Cross of his crucifixion behind him. The hand made panel the work is painted on is made up of 4 sections of conjoined wood. There are two sections at the top and two vertically. There is also a panel crack to the centre left and another smaller one to the upper right running vertically. The work needs cleaning and restoring but is an incredibly striking painting and clearly by a master hand. Needs research.
