This horn thread winder is used to store your thread in the 18th century fashion. This was one way thread was stored, by just winding the thread in the cut grooves and then the winder could be put in the sewing basket for safe keeping. Sewing was not just a past time ,but a necessity, so these little items were highly prized. Many times men carried a small sewing kit with them when they were out on extended trips, this was  a great  way  to store their waxed linen thread. The thread winder is 1 1/2 x 1 1/2"" in size. The winder is made of domestic cattle horn. The price is for one thread winder. I wanted to show you the color variations when buying more than one. You can request a dark or light color thread winder if you like. Each one will be a little different as all cattle horns are different.
