Offered here is a vintage original 5.25 x 7.5 in. pen-and-ink drawing related to the famous comic strip police detective DICK TRACY by its creator, Chester Gould, c.1930's. The image features an upper medium shot of Tracy in profile wearing his trademark black suit and yellow hat. He's standing next to his adopted son, Junior Tracy, who is wearing a white shirt with a yellow polka dot tie and is also shown in profile. Chester Gould has inscribed his drawing in black ink in the lower right corner thusly: With best wishes to Jody Lee - from Chester Gould. (he personalized this drawing by including the recipient's name in the caption at the top).

This vintage original pen-and-ink drawing was done on a piece of white card stock which has been affixed along the top of the verso onto a 10.5 x 13 in. piece of cardstock with a dark gray cardboard matte on top of it. The drawing may have been very lightly trimmed, as the top edge of the dialogue bubble above Tracy's head and the far right portion of the bubble above Jody's head are slightly cut off. Other than these potential light trims, this original drawing is in very fine+ condition without any tears, stains or apparent damage to it. There is a small area of surface wear near the right border just beneath the dialogue bubble above Jody's head.

Silent Cinema Inc. (the seller here on ebay) personally guarantees the authenticity of this drawing as well as the inscription by Chester Gould. This vintage original drawing will be packed between multiple pieces of sturdy cardboard to prevent any damage while in transit to the buyer.

The strip made its debut on October 4, 1931 in the Detroit Mirror and was distributed by the Chicago Tribune New York News Syndicate. Gould wrote and drew the strip until 1977. Since that time, various artists and writers have continued the strip, which still runs in newspapers today.
