View title:  No. 156. Prince Consort's Memorial, Kensington Park

Series:  London and Neighborhood.

Photographer: F. York (1823 - 1907)

Description: The Prince Consort being memorialized here is Albert, husband of Queen Victoria.  He died in 1861. This monument is now referred to as the Albert Memorial.  It stands in Kensington Park, directly north of the Royal Albert Hall.  In his portrait statue, Albert is shown as seated, facing south toward the Hall.

The memorial was completed in two phases.  The structure was unveiled in 1872.  The statue of Prince Albert was seated three years later.  York's view presents the Memorial without the statue in place, so it taken sometime between 1872 and 1875.

This is one of several views of the UK that I am currently offering for sale, including other images by York.  Please visit my store to see the others.
