1955 Press Photo A U.S. Navy pilot flies helicopter by remote control

This is an original press photo. A pilot on the ground (right) flew a helicopter by remote control at Bloomfield, Connecticut. Developed by the Kaman Aircraft Corp. for the Navy, the aircraft is the first fully remote controlled helicopter. The research craft carries a man aboard to take control in case something goes wrong. The helicopter has been flown for 100 hours by remote control, flying up, down, forward and backward. --- U.S. - Navy - Remote Control Photo measures 7.25 x 9.25 inches. Photo is dated 02-21-1955.
