FILL FUNCTION FLOAT SWITCH
TEMCo Industrial's float switches feature high quality German-manufactured Cherry switches inside a robust IP68 enclosure. If you're purchasing either the empty function (CN0360) or fill function (CN0361), the switches come pre-wired to a standard American plug (NEMA 5-15P to NEMA 5-15R). That means you can plug the switch in, plug your control device directly on top, and you're ready to go. No soldering, no color-coded wiring, no fuss - just plug it in.
These float switches are rounded so that they don't get caught up on any floating *ahem* solids. They also have short actuation lengths, which means you have reliable switching no matter how much slack you give the switch. Our float switches come equipped with a generous 13 foot cord, which also has an IP68 rating. These switches also come equipped with a 1 year no-questions-asked return policy and a 5 year warranty against manufacturing defects. FILL VS EMPTY FUNCTION EXPLANATION
Fill Function
Let's assume the switch is floating inside of a full container, and the switch is connected to a pump. As it floats, the switch is in the OFF position, which means the pump is also OFF. As the container empties, the switch slowly lowers. As it lowers, a steel ball inside the switch rolls at around the 45° down mark. When this ball rolls to the other side of the switch, it engages the contacts, turning the switch ON, which means the pump it's connected to is now ON. The pump's job is to fill that container back up, and it will do so until the switch floats back up, the steel ball rolls back again at around 45° up, and the switch returns to its OFF position, again turning the pump OFF, thus stopping the filling of the container.
Empty Function
Let's assume the switch is inside at the bottom of an empty sump tank, and the switch is connected to a pump. As the switch sits there, the switch is in the OFF position, which means the pump is also OFF. As the sump fills, the switch slowly floats up. As it floats, a steel ball inside the switch rolls at around the 45° up mark. When the ball rolls to the other side of the switch, it engages the contacts, turning the switch ON, which means the pump it's connected to is now ON. The pump's job is to empty the sump, and it will do so until the switch sinks back down, the steel ball rolls back again at around 45° down, and the switch returns to its OFF position, again turning the pump OFF, thus stopping the emptying of the sump.
