Item Description
Up for your consideration is a very large original watercolor painting depicting a cardinal sitting for a portrait in his extravagant residence It was painted c. 1870s, by Roberto Giglio (Italian, 1846-1922). It is signed R. Giglio / Roma (lower right), and measures 18 1/4 x 24 3/4 inches. The painting is in excellent condition, free of tears, folds, foxing, or restoration. There is some minor and even fading to the watercolors.
The ornate frame is made of hand-carved and ebonized wood. It measures 42" x 34.5". The frame has various losses to the extremities, which have been re-ebonized, and thus, not distracting. The painting has been professionally conserved, with new glass added, and re-matted.
