Movie Synopsis: Michel (Daniel Vigo) known for his sexual prowess hires a young girl Gisèle (Nathalie Vernier) to be his servant because she can make good coffee. He seeks to take the master and servant relationship to new heights of exploitation and she soon becomes his willing sex slave. He slaps her around before making love, which is the only behavior she finds repugnant but Giselle finds herself trapped and at the same time mesmerized into this abusive relationship and explores her sexuality with both him and with another woman. Eventually however, she avenges his abusive behavior in a surprise ending...

By the 1950s, remakes were very much the thing - 'Gaby', with Leslie Caron as the ballerina and John Kerr as the soldier is the third film version of 'Waterloo Bridge' (first done with Mae Clarke and Kent Douglass in 1931, then with Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor in 1940).

How Our Posters Are Graded: All images of the posters are of the actual poster for sale so what you see is what you get, we do not use stock photos.

Very Fine: Almost Mint: Unused with no flaws.

Fine:  Generally unused with the original folds or rolled. There may be some slight minor edge wear due to storage and, possible signs of minor ageing but no significant flaws.

Very Good:  These have the usual folds or are rolled posters possibly with pinholes, very light blue tack stain spots, minor edge or fold wear, minor splits or tears, and unobtrusive stains but no paper loss.

Good: Has possible staining, pinholes, minor paper lifts in corners, small tears (possibly taped on reverse) slight fold separations, minor paper loss, and possible blue tack stain spots, and edge wear but still good enough to frame.

Fair: These posters will need some restoration and are usually only sold on this site if they are very rare and hard to find. There will be a combination of tears, paper loss, staining, pinholes and blue tack stains but because of the rarity of the poster, worth linen backing.

About Posters from Belgium

Most Movie Posters from Belgium generally measure 14 to 15" x 19” to 22” dependent on the printer used, were  either in the horizontal or vertical format, and are known as an “Affiche”. There is usually a blank space section at the top of the posters where the theatre name and show times could be written or a snip attached, and it is also quite common to find them trimmed.

Because Belgium has no official language of their own, many of the posters are bilingual and many of the posters will be French and German/Dutch. The Belgian posters quite often have the English title printed in parentheses for English and American release films. The phrase "Imprime en Belgique" should be somewhere on the poster, usually in the bottom left or right corner.

Belgian movie posters are renowned for their striking and colourful graphic art often with unique images and that, along with their manageable size, are making them very popular among collectors.
