DESCRIPTION:

Here is a very attractive Art Deco period hair comb made in a form of celluloid which is given the appearance of moiré. Here the surface has a rippled pattern which resembles old fashioned watered silk. The effect can best be seen on the tines. These fancy decorative effects became possible with the use of celluloid. It was used to imitate a number of products such as jade, malachite and gold stone, as well as the more familiar tortoiseshell

The collage photograph shows some examples of similar hair accessories taken from contemporary illustrative sources and reveals the manner and hair styles in which they were worn.
