Movie Synopsis: Friends Herman, Karl, Keith, Derek and Barry are working class Manchester lads who aren't getting very far in their respective working lives. That fact is epitomized by Herman's failure to get the promotion to junior account executive at the advertising company at which he works. What Herman really wants to do is race Mrs. Brown, a greyhound inherited from his now deceased grandfather. Mrs. Brown is a natural racer and has the potential to win. His four mates have bought equal ownership of Mrs. Brown. Their problem is is that what little money they collectively have goes into the care and feeding of Mrs. Brown, which doesn't leave them enough money for such things as race entry fees, the ultimate race being one held in London. So, they try to raise money by their band Herman's Hermits playing at whatever gig they can get. In their quest to get themselves to London and Mrs. Brown into that race...

The Hermits were originally called The Heartbeats until they got a new lead singer, Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone. The Heartbeats included engraver Karl Green on bass, barber Barry Whitwam on drums and student Derek Leckenby on lead guitar. Telegraph engineer Keith Hopwood later threw in his lot with the group.

Herman’s Hermits began to tour the USA in 1965, hammering home their Britishness at every opportunity. The touring paid off, making Noone a pin-up in teen magazines and setting the stage for a string of smash hits.

Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat went to #2. The follow-up, the wistful ballad Mrs Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter, went to #1 and stayed there for three weeks. In 1968, The Hermits got their own feature film in the form of Mrs Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter.

A version of the band still tours frequently, but drummer Barry ‘Bean’ Whitwam is the only original member in the line-up.

Their music still has the same timeless, effervescent charm it always has and continues to entertain pop music fans of all stripes today.

How Our Posters Are Graded: All images of the posters are of the actual poster for sale so what you see is what you get; we do not use stock photos.

Very Fine – Almost Mint: Unused with no flaws.

Fine:  Generally unused with the original folds and possible signs of minor ageing but no significant flaws.

Very Good:  These have the usual folds, possibly some pinholes, possible very light blue tack stain spots, minor edge or fold wear, slips or tears, and unobtrusive stains but no paper loss.

Good: Has possible staining, pinholes, minor paper lifts in corners, small tears (possibly taped on reverse) slight fold separations, minor paper loss, and possible blue tack stain spots, and edge wear but still good enough to frame.

Fair: These posters will need some restoration and are usually only sold on this site if they are rare and hard to find. There will be a combination of tears, paper loss, staining, pinholes and blue tack stains but because of the rarity of the poster, worth linen backing.

About American Movie Posters: American One Sheet Poster globally known as the standard movie poster size and became the most popular among collectors. These posters were printed on a thin paper stock and were usually displayed in front of the theatre or in the lobby.

The 27” x 41” size became popular in the early 1900s, and remained so until the 1980s when the size was shortened to 27" X 40" (same as Australian one-sheets) but can vary slightly in length size dependent on the distributor and printer used. Many are now also double-sided for use in light boxes.

Many of the sexploitation movie posters of the 70s were printed by different printers and sizes varied from 25” x 37 up to 37” x 41”.

The One Sheet prior to 1980 was almost always found folded in eighths with one vertical fold and two horizontal folds, and after 1980 were sent to theatres rolled.

The studios often printed a couple of different styles of posters for one film, one being what is known as an “Advance” poster issued before the release of a film to entice potential audiences to a showing, and the other one released to coincide with film’s release.
