DESCRIPTION

The story follows the owner's days through boarding shool, the watch's pawning and eventual reunion with his owner.

Talbot Baines Reed (1852 - 1893) was an English author who is famously remembered for established a genre of school stories within the mid-2oth century. As a regular contributor to 'The Boy's Own Paper' in which much of his fiction first appeared, this text was Reed's first school story published in the paper, running for nineteen instalments from October 1880 to April 1881. Due to the immediate success and popularity of the story, Reed was encouraged by the editor's to attempt longer and more ambitious works, resulting in the publication of 'The Fifth Form at St. Dominic's', Reeds most popular and influential story.

In the publisher's original pictorial binding, featuring a prize bookplate to the front pastedown.


CONDITION

In a cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Very light bumping to extremities. Light markings to boards. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Some offsetting to first front free end-paper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
