DESCRIPTION

A limited edition work, being one of four-hundred and seventy copes printed as a large paper edition.

'Our Village' is a collection of rural sketches, showing life in the British countryside. The series is based upon life in Three Mile Cross, a small hamlet where the author, Mary Russell Mitford, lived.

Mary Russell Mitford was best known for her 'Our Village' series. Despite her success, her income wasn't enough to support her and her father, who she supported. She also wrote poetry, publishing 'Narrative Poems on the female Character', as well as plays, writing 'Charles the First: A Historical Tragedy', and 'Rienzi: A Tragedy'.

With an introduction by Anne Thackeray Ritchie, the daughter of the prolific author William Makepeace Thackeray. Anne was also an author, with her novels putting her in high regard of Victorian society. Her novels include 'The Village on the Cliff', 'Old Kesington', and 'Five Old Friends'.

With twelve plates and numerous in-text illustrations by Hugh Thomson. Thomson illustrated editions of many famous authors works, including Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie.
