Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright and poet. The first English language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, Scott's works are still read today, and many of his works are considered classics of both English language literature and Scottish literature.
Although Scott had attained celebrity status through his poetry during his lifetime, he is most famously remembered for his novels which were originally published anonymously under the title of 'The Author of Waverley'.
